Tom Macon was born in 1939 and named Thomas Joseph Macon. He was the second Archbishop of of the Roman Catholic Church in Melbourne, Australia. He was the author of Life Gleaning, a recollection of his memories of the occurrences that happened during his life journey. In the book, he highlights the social life and customs that were practiced during his early years of growing up in Virginia. He also gives details of the different social life and customs practiced in Richmond.
In the book, there are personal narrative of civilians and soldiers living during the civil war in the Southern states of United States from 1861 to 1865 detailing what the ordinary person in Virginia and Richmond underwent due to this civil war.
