Why did the Victorians build
fully defensible Medieval Castles?

The Victorians built castles all over the place but most of these were houses with a few gothic motifs stuck to them. Occasionally, just occasionally, someone had the great idea to build a fully defensible medieval castle. Why, in an age when the need for castles was long gone, would anybody go to the expense and trouble of building such an ediface?
